Missing Moab
Well, Spring has sprung and for many of us the weather has been quite pleasant. Typically for us when the sun melts away the winter we are eager to pack up the motorhome and hook up the Jeep to head to Moab, Utah for the annual Easter Jeep Safari. The Jeep Safari is a nine day event where a couple thousand of us off-road enthusiasts will take our favorite 4x4 and converge on the small, southeastern Utah town to enjoy the plethora of off road trails that the area has to offer. If you haven't heard of the Jeep Safari before we did a post about it last here which you can read here.
It's been a family tradition since 1989. Sometimes I think that I've spent as much time in Moab as I have in my own hometown. So it's been driving me crazy to know that this year we aren't going. Yes, we've missed a couple of years due to different circumstances but this year it's different. Being in Southern California we're a little bit further than our typical four hour drive from Moab and once again the logistics to make this trip a reality is less than ideal. So thanks to the logistics and my current employment, we will skip the Jeep Safari this year.
Sometimes it's difficult to have to choose where to travel. Sometimes we have to sacrifice what we love to do the most in order to be able to enjoy other experiences while at other times decisions are made for us that we have no control over. These are the decisions that suck. The real life situations that makes living in the real world a real drag.
The Moab area has so much to offer those that seek adventure. The beauty is off the charts. The exploration opportunities are unequaled. It's a place I could call home and in a way it already is. There was a time not long ago that I wondered if I would miss the fun and comradery that the Jeep Safari has to offer. I wondered if I could get rid of the Jeep and move on to other forms of travels and hobbies. Well the feelings that I'm having now are telling me that, no, I'm not ready to give it up yet. In fact I think we're going to have to figure out a way to make a trip to Moab sometime later this year and we're going to need to pencil in the Jeep Safari as one of our first adventures of 2018.
When you find a place that you love to visit you find a way to get there. I hope you have a place like that. A place that you always want to be that never get's old. If you don't, shall I recommend a visit to a little town called Moab? There's plenty of hiking, biking, off-roading and scenic views to share with everyone. Just be careful. You may find yourself addicted.
